Patient Tech Help for Seniors in the Pee Dee Region

Let me tell you something I hear all the time: “I feel so dumb when it comes to technology.”

You’re not dumb. Technology moves fast, and the people who design this stuff don’t exactly make it easy to understand. Half the time, they use words that don’t mean what you’d think they mean. (“The cloud”? It’s just someone else’s computer.)

If you’re in Florence, Darlington, Hartsville, or anywhere in the Pee Dee region and need help with technology, I want you to know there’s no judgment here. Just patient, plain-English explanations.

Why Tech Support Usually Fails Seniors

Most tech support falls into two categories, and neither works well:

The phone maze: You call a 1-800 number, navigate through menus, wait on hold, then talk to someone reading from a script who may or may not understand your specific problem. By the time you’re done, you’re more frustrated than when you started.

The eye-roller: Maybe it’s a family member who “helps” but sighs, talks fast, and makes you feel like you’re wasting their time. Or a tech person who uses jargon and gets impatient when you ask questions. Neither makes you want to ask for help again.

How I Work Differently

When I come to your home, I sit next to you. We go at your pace. If you need me to show you something three times, I’ll show you three times. If you want to take notes, take notes. If you want me to write down the steps, I’ll write them down.

There’s no rush. There’s no judgment. And there’s definitely no making you feel bad for not understanding something.

What Seniors Usually Need Help With

After working with folks in the Pee Dee area, I’ve noticed some common needs:

Email and video calls — Staying connected with family through email, Facebook, FaceTime, or Zoom. I’ll set it up and show you how it works.

Smartphones and tablets — These things can do a lot, but they’re not always obvious. I’ll help you with apps, settings, photos, and anything else.

Printers — Why are printers so complicated? I don’t know, but I’ll get yours working.

Protecting yourself from scams — Scammers love targeting seniors with fake virus warnings and phony tech support calls. I’ll show you what to watch for and how to stay safe.

Just understanding your devices — Sometimes you just need someone to explain how things work in plain English.

The “Personal Tech Person” Approach

Some of my clients have me on speed dial. When something weird happens — a confusing pop-up, a program that won’t open, a question about whether something is safe — they text me.

I call this being your “personal tech person.” Like how you have a doctor, a mechanic, a accountant — someone you trust who knows your situation. When something comes up, you don’t have to figure out who to call or worry about getting scammed.

No Pressure, No Judgment

Look, I get it. When you don’t understand something, it can feel embarrassing to ask for help. But here’s the thing: I’ve never met someone who couldn’t learn technology. I’ve only met people who weren’t taught in a way that made sense to them.

So if you’re in the Pee Dee region and you need tech help, give me a call. We’ll figure it out together.
