Smart TVs should make life easier, but for a lot of folks in Hartsville, they just make life more confusing. Too many buttons on the remote, too many apps, too many things to figure out.

If you’ve got a new TV sitting in a box or an existing one that you’re not getting the most out of, I can help.

What Even Is a Smart TV?

A “smart” TV is basically a regular TV with a built-in computer that connects to the internet. This lets you stream shows from Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and other services without needing an extra box.

The problem is, every TV brand does it differently. Samsung, LG, Roku, Fire TV, Google TV — they all have their own way of organizing things. And none of them are as simple as they should be.

Why People Call Me About TVs

Usually it’s one of these situations:

Just bought a new TV and need it set up. Getting it out of the box, on the stand (or mounted), connected to WiFi, and apps installed.

Can’t figure out the streaming apps. How do I get Netflix? Why do some shows cost extra? What’s the difference between all these services?

Too many remotes. One for the TV, one for the cable box, one for the sound bar… I can often simplify this situation.

Picture or sound doesn’t seem right. Sometimes the default settings aren’t great, or something’s not connected properly.

Cord-cutting questions. Thinking about canceling cable? I can show you what streaming options make sense for what you watch.

Streaming Services Explained Simply

Here’s the deal with streaming: you pay a monthly fee (usually $8-20) to access a library of shows and movies. Different services have different content:

You don’t need all of them. Most people pick 2-3 based on what they actually watch. I can help you figure out which ones make sense for you.

What About Regular TV Channels?

If you want local channels (CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX) without cable, you have options:

An antenna — Free, over-the-air channels. Works well in most of the Hartsville area. One-time cost, no monthly fees.

Streaming services with live TV — YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and others offer live channels. They cost about the same as basic cable though.

For a lot of people, an antenna plus one or two streaming services covers everything they want to watch.

The Remote Situation

Modern TV remotes have gotten ridiculous. Some have 50+ buttons. Some are so “simple” they hid all the useful buttons in menus.

When I set up your TV, I’ll:

What I Actually Do During a Setup

Here’s what a typical visit looks like:

  1. Unpack the TV (if new) and get it positioned
  2. Connect it to your WiFi
  3. Update the software
  4. Install the streaming apps you want
  5. Log into your accounts (Netflix, etc.)
  6. Adjust picture and sound settings
  7. Show you how to use it
  8. Make sure you can do the basics on your own

If you have a sound bar or other equipment, I’ll make sure everything works together.

Already Have a Smart TV But Not Using It?

A lot of people have smart TVs but are still using cable for everything because they never got the streaming part set up. If that’s you, I can show you what your TV can actually do.

You might be surprised. Those streaming services you keep hearing about? They’re on there. You just need someone to walk you through it once.

Service Area

I cover Hartsville, Florence, Darlington, and the surrounding Pee Dee area. $100 flat rate includes setup and teaching you how everything works.
