Is your computer running slower than it used to? You’re not alone — it’s one of the most common issues I help folks with in Florence, Darlington, and Hartsville. Before you call for help, here are five simple things you can try.
I know it sounds too simple, but many people leave their computer running for days or weeks. A restart clears out temporary files and refreshes your system. Try restarting once a week.
Look at the bottom of your screen (Windows) or top menu bar (Mac). Each icon represents a running program. Close the ones you’re not actively using — they all use memory and slow things down.
Outdated software can cause slowdowns. On Windows, go to Settings > Update & Security. On Mac, go to System Preferences > Software Update. Let your computer install any waiting updates.
If your web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) is slow, try clearing your browsing history and cache. This removes old files that build up over time.
Too many programs launching when your computer starts can really slow things down. You might have programs starting up that you don’t even need.
If these tips don’t help, there might be a bigger issue — like malware, a failing hard drive, or other hardware problems. That’s where I come in. I provide patient, in-home tech support throughout the Florence, Darlington, and Hartsville area for just $100 (includes up to 2 hours of work and travel).
