Smartphones are supposed to make life easier. But if you didn’t grow up with one in your hand, they can feel overwhelming. Too many settings, too many apps, too many things that don’t work the way you’d expect.
If you’re in the Pee Dee region — Florence, Darlington, Hartsville, and surrounding areas — and need help with your phone or tablet, I’ll come to you and get you sorted out.
Basic setup and settings. Making the text bigger. Turning off annoying notifications. Connecting to WiFi. Adjusting the volume. Small things that make a big difference in actually being able to use the device.
Taking and sharing photos. Your phone can take great pictures, but getting them off the phone and to your family can be confusing. I’ll show you how to share photos via text, email, Facebook, or whatever works for you.
Video calls with family. FaceTime, Zoom, Facebook Messenger — there are several ways to video chat. I’ll set up whatever your family uses and show you how to start a call.
Email on your phone. Getting your email working and understanding how to read, reply, and send messages.
Apps. What’s an app? How do you get them? Which ones are worth having? I’ll cut through the confusion and help you with the apps that actually make sense for you.
Connecting to other devices. Getting your phone to talk to your printer, TV, car, or hearing aids.
I help with both. They work differently, but the basics are the same. I’m not going to try to sell you on one over the other.
If you have an iPhone, great. If you have an Android (Samsung, Google Pixel, Motorola, whatever), also great. I’ll work with what you have.
That said, if your phone is really old and struggling, I might suggest it’s time for a new one. I won’t push you, but I’ll be honest if your device is the problem.
iPads, Samsung tablets, Amazon Fire tablets — same deal. These can be great devices, especially for reading, video calls, or casual browsing. But they can also be confusing to set up and use.
I’ll get yours working and show you how to actually use it.
I hear this a lot: people are afraid to tap anything because they might mess something up. So the phone just sits there, barely used.
Here’s the truth: it’s really hard to break a phone by tapping the wrong thing. The worst that usually happens is you accidentally change a setting, and settings can be changed back.
When I help you, I’ll show you how things work so you feel confident using your device. You shouldn’t be afraid of your own phone.
“How do I make the text bigger?” Easy fix in settings. I’ll show you.
“Why does my phone keep asking me to update?” Updates are usually good — they fix bugs and security issues. I’ll help you understand when to update and how.
“What’s using all my storage?” Usually photos and apps. I’ll help you clear out what you don’t need.
“Why is my battery dying so fast?” Could be several things — old battery, apps running in the background, screen brightness too high. I’ll figure it out.
“How do I stop all these notifications?” We’ll go through your settings and turn off the annoying ones while keeping the useful ones.
“My grandkids set this up and I don’t understand any of it.” No problem. We’ll go through it together and I’ll explain everything in plain English.
I know driving to a phone store and waiting around isn’t fun, especially if you’re not sure what questions to ask. I come to your home in Florence, Darlington, Hartsville, or anywhere in the Pee Dee area.
We sit down together, I look at your specific phone with your specific situation, and we figure it out. No rushing, no judgment, no making you feel dumb for not knowing something.
That includes travel and up to two hours. Most phone and tablet sessions take about an hour, but I don’t watch the clock. If we need more time to get you comfortable, we take it.
If your smartphone is more frustrating than helpful, let’s fix that. Give me a call (or a text, if you’ve figured that part out), and we’ll set up a time.
